BED BUGS- TREATMENT AND CONTROL
What pests do you have loitering around your property? Here’s some tips to spot bed bugs.
BED BUGS - WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE
Typically, bed bugs are small wingless insects that are brown and reddish in colour but their colouring is dependent on whether they are mature or not – they are usually lighter in colour when they’re younger. They are as long as 4mm to 5mm and 3mm wide, with six legs attached to an oval shaped body.
Behaviour
Bed bugs live close to their main hosts and stay unseen. Bed Bugs prefer to hide in small gaps in your bed frame, bedding and on mattresses in material folds where they have ready access to a source of food. They are nocturnal parasites, which means they rest during the day and are active at night. They crawl onto exposed and accessible skin and feed on human blood. Their bite typically causes a large, reddened and itchy welts that fades to a red spot. Bedbugs are not believed to transmit diseases to humans.
Do you have a bedbug infestation?
If you’re finding yourself covered in bites that are red followed by swelling and itchiness, it’s time to check if you’ve got an infestation. Check your bed and personal belongings near your bed, along mattress seams, behind headboards and behind any loose wall paper or chipped paint.
