FLIES

THE PROBLEM WITH FLIES

In Australia, we are home to more than 30,000 species of flies. A large majority of the world’s fly fauna is unique to Australia. Although most are harmless, there are a few species that are considered a health hazard. Flies are responsible for transmitting a big variety of diseases, luckily most of these diseases do not exist in Australia with the exception of dengue fever and certain encephalitis.

Do you have a fly infestation?

There are many different types of fly species, here are the most common nuisance species.

  • The house fly

These flies tend to be where humans are, they breed almost everywhere. They are mainly attracted to sweet food, and may be 10 – 20 generations per year, depending on the climate.

  • Bush flies

These flies are around all year round in northern Australia but are more present in rural areas where there are intensive livestock operations.

  • Stable flies

These flies are an issue for livestock due to their mouth which pierces out to feed on blood. Stable flies breed in moist and decaying organic matter.

Treatment

Our team always starts with a thorough inspection. One of our techs will inspect the indoor and outdoor areas of your home to identify areas of concentrated pest activity. Evaluating environmental factors like landscaping, possible sources, breeding habitats, and food sources the flies may be relying on.

Based on what we find during our inspection, we’ll design a pest management plan to help reduce fly populations. This pest management plan will include recommendations including Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices and techniques that focus on eliminating the pest and resolving the underlying causes of the infestation.
