What pests do you have loitering around your property? If you’ve got wasps and their nests around, you’re going to want to get the professional pest technicians on board.
WASPS - WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE
Wasps are irritable in behaviour, they are aggressive especially when they are provoked. In Australia, there are two types of wasps that cause serious concern for homeowners and businesses – Paper wasps and European wasps.
Paper wasps
They have small heads and medium sized eyes, antennae and a slender waist. Their abdomen has yellow/orange bands and attached are two pairs of brown-tinted wings. They produce a cone like nest and will become excessively aggressive when defending their nests.
European wasps
These wasps are rounder, more stout than the Paper wasp. They have a bright yellow and black banded abdomen with a pair of dark spots on each yellow band, attached are two pairs of clear wings and legs held closely to the body. They can sting again and again and produce an extremely powerful sting.
Wasp stings
Similar to a bee sting, wasp stings can be fatal depending on each body’s reaction. Stings can cause allergic reactions like severe swelling of the throat and face and hives and itching along with breathing difficulties.
Bee stings
Bee stings are painful but for others, it can prove more fatal. In Australia, the common Honeybee causes a mass of allergic reactions. The common symptoms of a bee sting is local pain and swelling. However, the more threatening allergic reactions include welts and hives, itching, swelling in the throat, face and tongue and nausea. If any of these reactions occur, you need to get medical treatment quickly to prevent anaphylactic shock.
